This book is a compliation of Gitxsan quotes and sayings, collected by M. Jane Smith over the course of her life growing up and living in a Gitxsan community. The sayings are written in English, with accompanying images designed to represent the original carved images that were used by the Gitxsan instead of a written language to communicate stories and events. The sayings cover a wide berth of topics, including thoughts on spirituality, death, relationships and conflict. Taken together, they present a glimpse into the life and culture of the Gitxsan.
