Aboriginal women are represented at a higher rate than non-Aboriginal women in Canadian correctional facilities, comprising 28% of the total population in 2012. This research report provides an updated profile of Aboriginal women, as well as an examination of changes over time. The data used to compile this report is a series of five consecutive two-year cohorts, running from April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2013 and data collected from the Correctional Service of Canada’s (CSC) electronic database.
