In 1997, the Government of Canada adopted a broad-based policy plan that would address the persistent discrepancies in living standards between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. This bilingual report outlines the progress made in the last two years towards enhancing the quality of life for Aboriginal people and promoting public awareness about Aboriginal issues through partnerships among Aboriginal people and between other Canadians. Actions have been taken in the spheres of education, Aboriginal governance, fiscal management, economic development, and public health and safety.
