This book consists of three approaches to the study of ethno-cultural groups and visible minorities in Canada's electoral system. The main goal of this study is to determine to what extent these groups are represented in the political system in order to ascertain what obstacles they face. Each approach has as its goal the maximization of participation and representation of these groups in the electoral process.

The first approach deals with the representation of these groups in political parties, and finds that groups are under-represented as a result of systemic obstacles. The second approach looks at the representation of these groups in the House of Commons, and finds that visible minorities are both under-represented and less likely to be successful candidates. The final approach considers the opinions of the leaders of six main ethno-cultural groups, and determines that these groups feel that there interests are not being represented.

Ce livre comprend trois approches pour étudier les groupes ethnoculturels et les minorités visibles dans le système électoral du Canada. L'objectif principal de cette étude est de déterminer dans quelle mesure ces groupes sont représentés dans le système politique afin de déterminer les obstacles auxquels ils sont confrontés. Chaque approche a pour objectif de maximiser la participation et la représentation de ces groupes dans le processus électoral.

La première approche concerne la représentation de ces groupes dans les partis politiques et constate que les groupes sont sous-représentés en raison d'obstacles systémiques. La deuxième approche examine la représentation de ces groupes à la Chambre des communes et conclut que les minorités visibles sont à la fois sous-représentées et moins susceptibles d’être des candidats reçus. La dernière approche prend en compte les opinions des dirigeants des six principaux groupes ethnoculturels et détermine que ces groupes ont le sentiment que leurs intérêts ne sont pas représentés. (En anglais seulement)
