Saskatchewan historian J. R Miller chronicles the human and factual history of Aboriginal children in Shingwauk residential school. The book opens with a fusion of past and present, bouncing between the Shingwauk reunion of 1991 and the historical beginnings of Shingwauk Residential School. Miller divides this book into three sections. In part one, he describes the establishment of the residential school system in Canada. Part two tells the stories and experiences of resistance and abuse of the survivors of the residential school. Finally, part three discusses the present effects of residential schooling and reflects upon the end of residential schooling and the important need for an education that is culturally sensitive of this history.

L'historien de la Saskatchewan, J. R Miller, décrit l'histoire humaine et factuelle des enfants autochtones dans le pensionnat Shingwauk. Le livre s'ouvre sur une fusion du passé et du présent, entre la réunion de Shingwauk de 1991 et les débuts historiques du pensionnat de Shingwauk. Miller divise ce livre en trois parties. Dans la première partie, il décrit la mise en place du système des pensionnats au Canada. La deuxième partie raconte les histoires et les expériences de résistance et d’abus des victimes du pensionnat. Enfin, la troisième partie traite des effets actuels de l’internat, de la fin de l’internat et de l’importance du besoin d’une éducation sensible à la culture de cette histoire.
