The Aboriginal Healing Foundation was established March 31, 1998 as a cornerstone of Strength–Canada’s Aboriginal Action Plan Gathering, a federal strategy to renew the relationship between Aboriginal peoples and the Government of Canada. The AHF was given $350 million and an eleven-year mandate, organized into three stages: 1) setting up of operations, 2) commitment of a $350 million healing fund towards initiatives that address the legacy of physical and sexual abuse in the Indian residential schools of Canada, and 3) writing of a final report.This report provides information on the work undertaken by the Aboriginal Healing Foundation in 2002. 

La Fondation autochtone de guérison, créée le 31 mars 1998, était la pierre angulaire de la réunion du Plan d’action pour les Autochtones Forte-Canada, une stratégie fédérale visant à renouveler la relation entre les peuples autochtones et le gouvernement du Canada. La FADG a reçu 350 millions de dollars et un mandat de onze ans, répartis en trois étapes: 1) la mise en place des opérations, 2) l’engagement d’un fonds de guérison de 350 millions de dollars au profit d’initiatives visant à lutter contre les abus physiques et sexuels subis dans les pensionnats indiens. du Canada et 3) la rédaction d’un rapport final.
