Alia examines the challenges Northern Canada faces in disseminating information. Alia stresses that while these challenges have lead to new advances in media technology, the North and Aboriginal peoples still tend to be underrepresented in the Canadian media. The author takes a comprehensive look at the representation of the North and Aboriginal peoples in both northern and southern Canadian media. In addition, this book considers the relationship between communication, language, politics, and education as well as providing a historical analysis of northern communications. Finally, the impact of technology, the internet and future directions in northern communication are salient issues that are also addressed.
