The Canadian Race Relations Foundation joins our colleagues here, and Canadians of goodwill everywhere, to condemn in the most profound way this destructive attack on the Jewish school in Montreal. Not only was this a malicious and vicious act, clearly this is also an attempt to destroy the character of a united Canada that we are working so hard to build.
The Canadian Race Relations Foundation takes the position that any racist and cowardly attack on any ONE community is considered an attack on ALL of our communities and we will not stand by and let that happen.
Only a few weeks ago, B'nai Brith Canada reported on an overall increase in antisemitic incidents and hate crimes across Canada in 2003. Since then, in the Toronto area, there was an awful series of similar racist attacks. The Canadian Race Relations Foundation reiterates its call for increased vigilance against all forms of racial and religious discrimination. We urge those who witness these activities to report them to the proper authorities.
"We commend the political leaders who have taken a string stand against racism and antisemitism. We also call on governments at all levels to show some leadership through intense public education and strengthening the struggle to combat racism in all its forms. Communities need to be assured that they are not alone in this struggle."
