TORONTO, April 17, 2012 - The Canadian Race Relations Foundation and Anima Leadership are pleased to announce the launch of the second phase of the Diversity and Equity Leadership Institute for Ontario School System Leaders (DELI-SL), supported by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Due to incredibly positive feedback, the program will continue to provide 2-day training sessions for school system leaders in 9 different locations across Ontario in 2012-2013.
"The training sessions offer a balance between understanding systemic racism, emotional impact, social relationships, processes, and multiple layers of conflict that accompany transformative learning", said Dr. Ayman Al-Yassini, CRRF Executive Director. "We are pleased with our continued cooperation with Anima Leadership as the planned sessions will assist Ontario school system leaders in developing capacity for equity in all areas", Al-Yassini said.
In outlining the approach of the training sessions, Shakil Choudhury of Anima Leadership noted that "the sessions will offer a dynamic space for discussion and conversation about equity, race and human rights, and how these affect personal, community and organizational change." The sessions will help navigate through difference, diversity, power relations and conflict. "They will blend the intellectual with the emotional, and provide tools and practice to develop leadership needed to transcend the barriers that often surface in undertaking equity work", Choudhury added.
The training sessions will be open to all Ontario school system leaders, including principals, vice-principals, superintendents, trustees as well as diversity and equity leads. The first three locations and dates include:
Greater Toronto Area (GTA), July 4-5
Ottawa, August 15-16
Thunder Bay, September 26-27
Additional dates and locations to be confirmed. Meals and one-night accommodation will be provided.
