  • Focus of Activities
    IAAW projects, services and programs are developed by and for Alberta's Indigenous women and are open to all First Nation, Metis and Inuit women and their families. Services are specifically dedicated to Aboriginal women living on/off reserve, on/off settlement, and within rural/urban settings.
    IAAW promotes the advancement of Aboriginal Women through specialized programming in leadership development, poverty reduction, violence prevention and transition/advocacy services.

    a) Vision
    (i) Aboriginal women excel in Canadian society with grace and power.
    (ii) Aboriginal women are celebrated for their accomplishments as family, political, social, and business leaders.
    (iii) Canadian society will understand, acknowledge, and eliminate the systemic discrimination of aboriginal women.
    b) Mission
    (i) IAAW will coordinate community-based resources for the empowerment of aboriginal women.
    (ii) IAAW will engage in research and advocacy activities which ensure that aboriginal women are meaningful consulted on human rights.
    (iii) IAAW will develop programs to address barriers to advancement such as isolation, poverty, violence, and discrimination.
    (iv) IAAW will raise the issues of aboriginal women as a priority for governments, corporations, institutions, and the non-profit sector.
    (v) IAAW will celebrate the excellence of aboriginal women.
    c) Values
    (i) IAAW practices and promotes respect, dignity, and cooperation in securing recognition, protection, and empowerment of aboriginal women.
