Dale Gibson is the author of several books and many articles, chiefly about constitutional law and legal history. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and his scholarly work caused him to be designated “Distinguished Professor” and “Distinguished Professor Emeritus” by the University of Manitoba. His public service includes a lengthy term with the Manitoba Law Reform Commission, Chairmanship of the Manitoba Human Rights Commission, and service as constitutional advisor to several governments, as well as to the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. In 2006 he received the Edmonton Bar Association’s Distinguished Service Award. Among his current projects is an annotated edition of the records of the General Quarterly Court of Assiniboia, the first court in British North America west of the Great Lakes.
