Rebekah McDermott has worked in the fields of employment, education and immigration, providing direct support to a diverse client base and teaching career development, life skills and intercultural workshops. She has also served on Non-Profit Boards and community committees that have focused on newcomers to Canada, diversity, anti-racism, welcoming and inclusive communities, labour market and economic policy development.
She currently works in the settlement field providing employment and career support to refugees and immigrants. Additionally, she worked for 1 year coordinating 6 working groups in achieving goals outlined in a strategic plan around ending homelessness in Red Deer.
Rebekah studied in both Child and Youth Care and Sociology, and she continues to participate in numerous professional development courses. She is passionate about working toward a just and ethical society, where all people are free to speak and live without fear of persecution.
She has spoken at various public events and considers herself an idealistic-realist who is always learning. “Always forward” has become one of her key personal mottos.
