Deirdre Meintel is professor of anthropology at the Université de Montréal. She is cofounder and editor of a journal called Diversité urbaine and directs an interdisciplinary research group of the same name. She is also one of two co-directors of the Centre de recherches en études ethniques des universités montréalaises, a research center for the study of ethnic and religious diversity. It includes 50 researchers in the social sciences and humanities from various universities in Québec.Deirdre has authored works on ethnicity, migration and family, ethnic identity, transnationalism and mixedness. She has done fieldwork in Mexico, the Cape Verde Islands, New England (USA) and Quebec. Since 2006 she has directed a team study involving five other researchers on religious and spiritual currents that have developed in Quebec since the 1960s. This project has been the basis of numerous publications on religion and modernity and religious diversity.
