This panel brings together speakers with experience working with youth at the grassroots to discuss how young people become protagonists of social change in their communities. Over the years, youth programming has been informed by different conceptions of the role of youth in society – from passive consumers of goods and services, to resources and assets in their communities. These speakers challenge us to go further, to see youth as change makers, as innovators of of new community dynamics and systems, and as moral leaders in the advancement of society. What ideas inform their work? And how, in practice, do they foster the empowerment of youth from different backgrounds?
