While law enforcement play an important role in the fight against hate, so does Government and the community. Partnerships between the three are the keys to success.
The Organization Against Racism and Hate is a British Columbia based group that brings together 28 small communities across the province to collaboratively find ways to address incidents of racism and hate crime. Each community has established a partnership of organizations/individuals that actively develop community capacity and skills that foster community engagement; and build community sustainability plans to address racism and hate.
The workshop will discuss the definition of a hate crime, hate propaganda, legislation in the Criminal Code relevant to hate crime. We will also consider the motivation behind hate and issues relating to radicalization issues.
